2024 Heritage Month Celebrations

During the month of October, we celebrate the history of St. Norbert College, founded in 1898 by the Rev. Bernard Pennings, O. Praem., and today the only Norbertine college in the world. This year we have multiple ways to celebrate the 126th anniversary of the founding of the college. 

All Month

Center for Norbertine Studies

Iberian Norbertines: 700 Years of (Nearly Forgotten) History (1143-1835)

The Center for Norbertine Studies, along with the help of Br. Terry Lauerman, O. Praem. and Rosemary Sands, has put together a display on the Spanish Norbertines. We welcome all to visit the Center for Norbertine Studies on the second floor of Mulva Library to discover the profound legacy of the Norbertines in Spain and Portugal through a captivating exhibit showcasing centuries of spiritual and cultural influence. 

The displays will be open for viewing in the Center for Norbertine Studies, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday, throughout the month of October.

SNC Trivia Contest 

Everyone is invited to participate in a trivia contest to learn more about the college and its history. All SNC student entries will be entered into a drawing to win SNC swag from the bookstore.

The trivia contest will open Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 10 a.m.! At that time a form will be live linked on this page, and on the mySNC event page.

Happy Birthday Month SNC!

SNC students, faculty and staff are invited to celebrate the college’s 126th birthday by having a piece of birthday cake and ice cream and participating in casual conversations as we celebrate our community and the founding of our college.

What Does the Eucharist Have to Do With a Liberal Arts College?: St. Norbert and the Vocation of Catholic Higher Education Today

Tim O'Malley, Ph.D., theologian of the McGrath Institute for Church Life and acclaimed author of nine books on topics related to liturgy and sacramental theology will lecture on the Eucharist's connection to liberal arts college.

Free copies of O'Malley's book, "Becoming Eucharistic People: The Hope and Promise of Parish Life" will be given to those who register and attend the lecture.

Heritage Week Prayer Breakfast and Award Presentation

The Founder’s Award at St. Norbert College is given to employees and students of the college in recognition of their contributions to the Norbertine spirit and tradition on campus.

Awards are given as part of a Heritage Week Prayer Breakfast for Founder's Award recipients and their guests, along with SNC faculty and staff.

In order to provide hospitality for those who plan to attend, please complete the Heritage Week Prayer Breakfast RSVP.

How do you fit into the grand scheme of a 900 year-old medieval institution? Join us for this immersive discussion, as we traverse the visually-stunning intersection of Norbertine space and time (the Bemis-Cofrin hallway). Witness the rise of the Norbertine Order from a swampy forest to a European powerhouse, experience the pains they suffered through the Black Death, the Protestant Reformation, and the French Revolution, gaze upon the global rebirth of an order on the brink of extinction, and discover the part you play at St. Norbert College in the unfolding history of Norbertines.

There are two back to back offerings available - one starting at 2 p.m. and the other starting at 2:30 p.m.

SNC faculty, students and staff are encouraged to RSVP through mySNC; others can just plan on attending. RSVP for 2 p.m. offering; RSVP for 2:30 p.m. offering.

The Catholic Intellectual Tradition: Living Gift or Museum Curiosity?

John O'Callaghan, Ph.D., associate professor of philosophy at the University of Notre Dame, permanent member of the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas, and a graduate of St. Norbert College will give a lecture on the Catholic Intellectual Tradition.
