Whether it’s on campus, in the local community or on the other side of the world, our students believe in helping others.

At the Sturzl Center, we can help to connect you to work that promotes the common good. The center is grounded firmly in the idea that service-learning paired with reflection can be a medium for personal growth and life-changing experiences.

Co-Curricular

Co-curricular service-learning is concerned with raising students’ consciousness and familiarity with issues related to various communities. This usually occurs outside of the classroom

TRIPS
Participate in an alternative break trip and grow through life-changing service and solidarity with some of the world’s most vulnerable people. 

Residential Service ProgramsResidential Service Programs provide St. Norbert students with the opportunity to live, learn and serve together. Students serve with community partner sites impacting youth and poverty.

Service-Oriented Student Organizations 
The college offers more than a dozen service-oriented or faith-based student organizations.



Academic

Academic Service-Learning courses provides students with the opportunity to engage in service as part of their academic course work. 

Academic Service-Learning Courses
The Community Engagement (CENG) Course designation assists students in identifying courses with an academic service-learning component. You must view the detailed course timetable available in KnightLine for a current list and description of CENG courses. Search by, or look for, the “Commnty Engagment-Serv Learng” attribute in the timetable. After searching for these courses by the attribute, select “Syllabus Available” for more information on the community-engaged details/requirements for a specific course of interest to you.

The Village Project
The Village Project is an academic service-learning program embedded into the first year education major experience through courses EDUC 101, EDUC 102, and EDUC 103.

Post-Grad

Post-Graduate Service
Each year some of our graduates commit to one or more years of full-time service in the United States or abroad. Full-time service offers you the chance to share your gifts, experience a new culture, live and work in community, broaden your experience and knowledge of the world, develop your spirituality, tap into your passion, and create a more just and humane world. It is not “a year off,” it is hard work with populations who have great needs. Post-graduate service can also be a valuable experience for personal growth and exploring future career options.
